An independent bookshop in Glasgow. An ice cream parlor in Havana, where strawberry is the queerest choice. A cathedral in ruins in Managua, occupied by the underground LGBTQIA+ community. Queer people have always found ways to exist and be together, and there will always be a need for queer spaces. Join one of the editors of the recent book Queer Spaces, Joshua Mardell, in a discussion exploring what their work has revealed about the contribution queer space makes to both LGBTQIA+ life and the life of our communities and cities more generally.
As both editors are UK-based, this will be a hybrid event format.

Joshua Mardell

Dr Joshua Mardell (he/him) is an architectural historian. Joshua works across temporalities and geographies, with his privileged domain of study being British 19th and 20th century architecture. His work – informed by queerness as a sensibility – centres particularly on historiographical reflection: in validating the missing sections of architectural history, in unpicking the absence of things – and reconciling those absences.
