You wouldn’t believe some of the possibilities reclaimed materials lend themselves to. We’re talking luxe, premium sh*t you find in high-end furniture stores…made from people’s junk. And it’s all functional!
What, you don’t believe me? You should pop ‘round and test them all out yourself over drinks and nibbles. Don’t worry, you won’t hurt yourself – we know what we’re doing. Let us transform your opinion about waste.

Carl is a furniture, lighting, and object designer-maker who is currently working as the in-house Design & Production Developer at Tait Outdoor furniture, based in Melbourne.
His intrinsic sense of creating led him to complete a Bachelor of Design in Product Design at UTS followed by working as a CAD designer at Adam Goodrum Studio.
Broesen has exhibited his works at Australia’s Next Top Designer 2022, ‘New Australian Design’ presented by Powerhouse Museum, was shortlisted for Australian Wood Reviews ‘Maker of the Year’s top 100 and has recently been listed in the final 30 for the Australian Design Review’s inaugural 30 Under 30 design program.
Carl is most inspired to compose pragmatic works that balance materials with producibility underpinned by ethical and sustainability values. These works aim to evoke deep connections and meaning with their users that encourage locally made and produced behaviors.

Angharad Summers is a passionate furniture designer and maker from New Zealand currently based in Melbourne. She studied product and furniture design at Unitec in Auckland, has exhibited at Design Fringe in Melbourne numerous times and has recently been listed in the final 30 for the Australian Design Review’s inaugural 30 Under 30 design program.
Her designs aim to be interesting, sustainable and non-egocentric pieces. She wants to design pieces that are functional and/or thought-provoking in order to provide people with something that is new, yet necessary.
Non-egocentric design is design which is selfless and altruistic. It is about something bigger than the designer and their desire to create something beautiful. It can come in the form of a functional, useful object which is solving a problem or it can come in the form of an object which isn’t necessarily functional but which makes a statement and presents a wider issue for people to discuss.
Maryam recently graduated with Honours in Product Design from the University of Technology Sydney. Having cultivated a love for art at a very young age, Maryam takes influence from the creative freedom of art and merges it with the pragmatism of industrial design. She focuses on offering solutions that engage in alternative and experimental ways of thinking that ultimately produce designs rich with meaning. She defines her aesthetic as whimsical yet earnest, eclectic yet individual, with an element of surreal intertwined in the real. Maryam recognises the potential for artefacts to be used as tools that can connect people with themselves, others and their surroundings. Out of her workshop, Maryam hopes to produce design motivated by this thinking.

Richard is a product designer specialising in sustainable furniture and homeware products, with a strong focus on integrating innovative materials into user-orientated designs.
After completing a Bachelor of Product Design at the University of South Australia in 2014, Richard moved to Nantes, France, to undertake a Masters of Sustainable Design at L’Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique, graduating in 2017. Richard spent a further 3 years in Amsterdam, establishing a career as an independent designer helping local and overseas businesses to develop furniture and homeware products.
Now based in Melbourne, Richard continues his design practice, working with entrepreneurs and start-ups to integrate principles of sustainable design into their products, from concept design through to prototyping and manufacture.

Iluka Studio designs and manufactures a range of products that are inspired by simplicity, attention to detail, quality design and manufacturing, and most importantly, sustainability.
The concept and creation of Iluka Studio was born when founder, Jack Stannard, witnessed how much beautiful native timber was being discarded from construction sites. He began working on ways to repurpose these materials in his small backyard shed. Now expanding into a new creative workshop in Balgowlah, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Iluka Studio has an extended range of core products and can deliver on custom projects.
Jack has a natural talent for creativity and design, growing up in a family of artists, designers and musicians. In 2021, Jack graduated from a Bachelor of Industrial/Product Design from the University of Sydney (UTS).
Adam Raphael Markowitz is an architect as well as furniture & lighting designer/maker. He has attended graduate schools of design & craft in Melbourne (The University of Melbourne), Hobart (The University of Tasmania), The Netherlands (TU Delft), Denmark (The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts) and the United States of America (the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship).
Exposed in those schools to fine craft and traditional joinery alongside contemporary design, he has developed a design philosophy that values the intimate connection between design and fabrication, and the new opportunities found at the intersection of modern digital processes and traditional methods of craftsmanship.
Since 2015 his interdisciplinary practice has offered Architectural Services, Design Consultancy, small batch production and bespoke one-off commission work. Markowitz teaches the ExLab experimental Design Studio at the Melbourne School of Design, The University of Melbourne.
Apple Huang is a registered Architect currently practicing with Architects EAT, as well as tutor at the Melbourne School of Design, the University of Melbourne.
Having spent the first half of her life on the island of Borneo, she has an affinity towards exploring the relationship between nature and the built environment. Apple worked under Markowitz in 2018 as part of Ex-Lab – the Experimental Design Workshop at the Melbourne School of Design, during which time she pioneered the method used for ‘Droop’ involving pressing molten plastic between two forms using a manual screw press. Her work, “Clare Table”, made of recycled HDPE plastics, was shortlisted for the Salone del Mobile Milano 2018.
Hannes Fehrmann is a PhD candidate with the “Sustainable and Renewable Forest Products Group” at The University of Melbourne. His research explores the development, assessment and evaluation of ultra-low-density composite panels fabricated with Australian-grown hemp hurd. Besides conventional adhesives, he examines a natural modifying agent mixed with residual hemp for less toxic building materials.
Hannes previously worked as a Research Technician with the “Forest Products Innovation Group” of the Dept. of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) in Brisbane, QLD. At DAFF, he provided technical support to research activities related to rotary peeled veneer, wood composite testing, and forest products/prototype manufacturing. Hannes holds a BSc. in “Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology” from the University of Göttingen and is a certified cabinet maker.

Alisher is an industrial designer who graduated from the Product Design Honours program at the University of Technology Sydney. Through his studies and life experiences, he has developed a passion for craftsmanship and the skills required to shape the physical world.
Alisher’s design philosophy focuses on creating innovative and responsible craft practices that enhance the relationship between objects and the world around us. As a storyteller, furniture designer, and maker, Alisher considers himself a craftsman who seeks to create exceptional work.

Suraj Vijayakumar is a product and furniture designer & maker from India currently based in Melbourne, Australia. Creative visualisation skills, broad material understanding and an eye for colour detail and aesthetics make him stand out as a versatile designer. His interests and work span a diverse range of multi-disciplinary areas which include product design, spatial design, trend research, colour material and finish.
His works draw inspiration from socio-cultural values, beliefs, cultural diversity and indigenous knowledge in contemporary context to adapt to the changing needs and embrace sustainability. He believes empathy towards nature motivates people to keep moving closer to conserve the environment.
Harry is a Sydney based furniture designer operating under the brand name Studio Twenty Four. S24 was started in Harry’s garden shed as a place to freely experiment with new ideas and design concepts. While S24 has gradually evolved into a furniture design business, the experimental nature behind Harry’s work is still very much there. He often works with materials commonly perceived as waste to create pieces that are eye catching but also start conversations about sustainability and environmentally responsible practices. @studiotwentyfoursydney
It was the great reveal of a banged up, but cherished doll, perfectly restored by Elizabeth’s mother at the age of six that seeded a lifetime passion for repurposing and reconditioning. With a background in fine art and textile design, Elizabeth established her business Flaunt Design over 20 years ago. Specialising in furniture design and re-upholstery, Elizabeth’s love for restoration has seen her upholster much of Melbourne, from small domestic to large commercial jobs. She has been a frequent contributor to Fringe furniture since its inception, taking out awards on several occasions with a number of her works acquired for the city of Darebin’s permanent Art collection. More recently she has shifted focus towards lighting and hopes to continue designing with sustainablity and re-use at the heart of her work.
