Istif: Elevated Surfaces presents a new perspective on expanding the materiality of ceramic products towards diverse forms and purposes and showcases the possible dialogues between them.

How can we multiply the usage of an object in our daily life? How can we benefit differently from one? How can they be designed as offering versatility? Can ceramic handmade pieces function as one of the players in interior design more than just being “decorative pieces”?

These are all questions behind the versatile ceramic product series Istif by Sydney-based design studio ESMEZ. Each product is designed to be multi-functional which gives the user a variety of possibilities. These ceramic pieces are stackable creating interchangeable elevated surfaces. They can be configured with different sizes and color-textured versions that are ideal for product displays or food servings.

*ISTIF means “stack of/stacking” in Turkish which is etymologically borrowed from Greek.
