This exhibition will survey experiments, explorations, potential and new products with bio-material mycelium from Australian designers, industry and researchers. From product design approaches to mycelium as medicine to building material to textile waste incubator, the event will feature a diverse array of work on the theme of circularity. It is developed via a collaboration between academics from RMIT University’s Industrial Design program and creatives and strategists from social impact agency Ellis Jones. The guiding narrative of this exhibition is that mycelium enables cleaner systems of production and economic circularity. Through pairing the concept (circularity) with material (mycelium), the exhibition makes real the opportunity for circularity to address our enormous climate challenge. After leaving this exhibition, people should feel inspired and empowered to embrace circular practices. It will also include an educational component, on both mycelium and circularity. Ellis Jones in collaboration with RMIT will produce educational materials and informational moments throughout the exhibition. There will also be panel discussions with industry experts, the exhibitors and academics. The exhibition will take place at Abbotsford Convent. It will include a mixture of new and existing works from over 20 exhibitors.
