The Florescence Collection continues Adam and Arthur’s investigation of curious forms and their abstraction when juxtaposed with straw marquetry. Comprising three ‘Anthesis Caskets,’ Florescence expresses the creative dialogue between contemporary design and the 17th century craft of marquetry. Each casket is composed of three intersecting sphericons that mimic the changes to a flower during its flowering period or anthesis.
These transformations are symbolised by changing forms relative to viewpoint: a perfect equilateral-triangle from above, converging circular edges from the front, and dimensionally splicing sphericons from the side. This is amplified by the luminosity of the bloom-like pattern mimicking the sequential sweeping colour change along an inflorescence during anthesis. Each of the three caskets is in a different colourway.
The catalogue details for each casket are: A&A, Anthesis casket 2022, Custom dyed rye straw, carbon biopolymer, brass inlay, 50 x 43.5 x 43.5 cm.
Since launching the Bloom cabinet (collection National Gallery of Victoria) in 2018, Adam and Arthur have ignited the design world, winning the prestigious Createur Design Award for Best Collection in New York in 2020, and The Design Files Awards for Furniture, Australia, in the same year. In 2021 their work was included in ‘200 trunks, 200 Visionaries: The Louis Vuitton Travelling Exhibition.’ And they won Furniture design of the year at the 2022 Dezeen Awards. Their one-off pieces are highly collectable and attract worldwide interest.
