The Common Design Studio is an international collaborative design sprint that explores global and wicked problems and challenges. For several years the studio has engaged students and lecturers from RMIT University (Melbourne), London College of Communication (London), and Elisava (Barcelona) along with industry and research experts. This year will include participants from RMIT University Vietnam.

In 2021 the studio focused engagement as Ideas for Humanity, in a Cookbook for Planetary Health. In 2022, the studio considered gardening as a radical and social activities within urban spaces. In 2023 the studio explores our relationship with the air that we share, locally and globally, designing for the planet as well as diverse human needs.

The studio exhibits the student proposals in a public exhibition showcasing the capacity of design to bring together global communities to collaborate on sustainable design futures. The proposals are framed as a cookbook of recipes that can incite positive collective action and encourage creative resistance.

The studio will also come together in a live global event to launch the exhibition and discuss the student proposals, what they mean for sustainable futures, and the future of design education.
