Abbotsford Convent presents events that reflect the relationship between Birrarung, ‘River of Mists and Shadows’ (Yarra River) and the Convent, which sits on Wurundjeri land. Dylan Martorell presents his site-specific sound installation, Sonaflora Drift Yarra (2022), a soundwork composed with Birrarung flora. Photographs of leaves were layered onto a grid of pitches and durations, run through a synthesizer and interwoven with recordings of the surrounding environment to create renditions of human-flora interaction (The Rotunda). Following the performance, Jeroen Hagendoorn, Senior Associate at Hassell, reflects on the influence of Birrarung on Hassell’s design for the new Abbotsford Convent Masterplan (2022).
